I can’t believe that in spite of the speed I had to work at I captured the birds most successfully like this Woodpecker
A Kiewiet
This one came in and left with such speed I am surprised I snapped it. Not too sure whether is is a female Weaver or a Sparrow
Both me and Better Half spent hours with our bird books and the two possibilities are what we finally settled on.
This masked yellow Weaver was just too good to pass by
And this is the brownness of Pretoria and the whole Highveld this time of the year
Fire danger? You can bet on that as this brownness is saturated with dryness and a wrong spark can result into a display of roaring flames.
Have a great Sunday.

Beautiful birds and great captures of them. That Highveld does look awfully dry. Hopefully there won’t be a wrong spark. Is that normal for this time of year?
Absolutely normal in the northern part of the country and right up to the border with our neighbouring states. It is our winter trade mark in the north.
Excellent photos, newsy.
I’m definitely not looking forward to the brown winter dryness of the Highveld.
That dryness is manageable for a few days, but I don’t know about longer.
Lovely pics Newsey…no chance of a fire in this area…everything is saturated….
Can you believe it…large areas without water because of leaking pipes!
Saw that on the news a real drought in floods!
Stunning bird pictures!!!
You certainly have a way with the birds!
Yes, I can just imagine the sound and sight and fury of a careless match dropped in that spot!
