Most shopping centers provide disposal bins where one can take all recyclables such as bottles and plastic containers for disposal. At this particular center we are to place all glass items in the bins with green tops and the plastics go in the bins with the yellow tops. This is understandable as it eliminates time wasting sorting at the final dump. Having witnessed a collection by a garbage disposal truck yesterday I am mystified as to why we must do the sorting when disposing of our recyclables when both bins go into the same garbage disposal truck in mixed fashion.
A nice mix up
I guess one can relate to that old adage “Only in Africa”. Hope all will enjoy a super afternoon.

That is quite odd, Newsy. perhaps it makes it easier for the people who come around digging in the dustbins to collect what they need without littering. Here in my road there are a few guys with trollies collecting plastic bottles, newspaper etc.
Maybe you are right, make the life of the vultures easier
The green truck should be censured severely for picking up orange waste!
A real ‘why bother’ case.
Absolutely, why bother, just dump.
Then one looks at the UK where they FREAK if you put something in the wrong bin. But then, they segregate the contents with great fervour.
Don’t forget Cape Town is laid back
Job creation – you get to split the stuff into the bins. The pick up people get to pick it up, and the lot on the dumps get to split the stuff again.
As you said – only in Africa – things don’t quite work here
No point in trying to reason that one out, common sense and logic don’t feature much in our lives anymore.
TIA
Sorry, but I’ve seen the same happen here on the other side of the globe. Don’t think you can rightly claim the “only in Africa” label. Although my main dump site doesn’t make you separate except for glass, but that’s not picked up curbside.
Now that is good news, we are not alone
Oh boy, I’ve heard that story here in the U.S. as well. We wash, sort and separate and it all ends up in the same landfill. Tell me it isn’t so!
