While every one is holding their breaths because of the presidential elections in the US of A enjoy the day.

The Spring flowers in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are spectacular this year. Here in the first of a few posts are some photos I took of the display put up by the King Proteas.

Enjoy the day.

My surprise at the variety of Proteas knew no end.  It was a pity that the weather did not play along and also that this hike was not six weeks later as the Proteas would by then all have been in full bloom.

Few and far between there were also some other flowers

As the trail led us up the mountain the visibility dropped sharply

No view over the valley, only cloud

Still the Proteas stood out brightly

After some two hours we were back down in the valley and the boardwalk was a welcome sight treating us to the first bit of sunshine of the day

A welcome sight was the fire place at the Old Oak Café as by then in spite of the hiking we were freezing

The coffees and snacks at the Old Oak Café were superb, but I can recommend they check on their spelling

To my shame I must admit that I never knew there is such a variety of Preoteas as I discovered on the hike.  I lived in the illusion that there are only the King Protea and pincushions.  So without much ado more protea photos.

Enjoy a super start to the new week.

The trail in a very gentle way took us higher up on the mountain slope and slowly but surely we entered into the Protea paradise.

Enjoy a super Sunday.

From Sleepwell Farm we proceeded to Stellenbosch via the Blaauwklippen Wine Estate where on Sundays there is a well spoken of market.

This family market started in March 2011 as a once-monthly market, but due to its popularity we changed it to a weekly market and are now open every Sunday 10h00 to 15h00. The market has a range of stalls from fresh produce and homemade products to crafts and plants. There is also live music, delicious food stalls and of course Blaauwklippen wines to enjoy, so bring a blanket and relax under the trees.

In all honesty we were disappointed as similar overcrowded markets offering the same are located much closer to home.

Bought a light meal each and after the bite left for Stellenbosch proper where we had about two and half an hour to kill before our appointment for high tea.

Midweek again, have a super day.

Being the festive season I did not bother to enquire about the price per flower.

Midweek again, enjoy the day.
