A small fluffy rain spider in the laundry room yesterday and believe it most welcome rain is predicted for this afternoon.

The spider was carefully caught and removed to the garden.

Enjoy the start of the weekend.

The signs are there that autumn has passed and winter is upon us.

The Golden Orbs are gone.

And a sure sign is the male Sugarbirds showing off the best stepping out feathers to to herald the mating season.

Enjoy a super new week.

Strange this year the Golden Orbs seem to have given us a skip.  At least I did manage to capture one in digital format.  Where the others have gone to I have no idea.

Golden Orb back 2015

Enjoy a super day.

On our return home we had the usual exuberant welcome committee that was most delighted to have us back.

Little did I expect that there would also be a similar committee from the insect world.

And this lady who watched half the US F1 Grand Prix with me before I noticed her presence in my study.

Rain spider

She was carefully captured and returned to the garden where she belongs.

Have a super day.

Woke up at four this morning to the howling of a wind next to none.  Some gusts were so strong it rattled the window frames.  Shortly after six the portals of heaven opened and the rain came dashing down pelting the earth with venom.

Water logged in front of the TV room’s door leading to the garden.

In less than six hours I measured 21mm (according to my calculations almost an inch).  Was about noon when the weather broke and the sun broke through the clouds.  The wind’s velocity has dropped to just above that of a strong breeze.

Along with the rain came two unwelcome visitors that I gently captured and returned to the garden where they belong.

Rainspiders, harmless but still we do not want them close by.

In the passage at my study door.

On the ceiling in my study.

Rainspider 2

Both were almost the size of my handpalm.

Enjoy a pleasant midweek evening.

So we thought winter is here and the golden Orbs have gone to ground.  Big error, and here what we saw yesterday.  Yes, still one orb going strong.

… and the golden web shining below.

Orb winter 2

Glad to say sorry folks nature can always be one up.

Have a soooooper doooooper  Friday evening.

Winter truly arrived in all its glory yesterday.  As I am sitting here at 5:15 am it sounds like a tornado blowing outside with the force of the rain on the roof at times drowning the sound of the wind.  This also means the Golden Orbs are gone and hibernating.

Last of the Orbs

Last Orb

Our good fortune is true winter here lasts only for about three months and then we head for spring.

Enjoy a super midweek day.

A wet spider or was she already dry when the pic was taken?

Raindrops on a spiderweb 2

Nature is absolutely magnificent.

Looking at the Golden Orbs in the garden one can see it is the end of their season.  Gone is the golden hue now replaced by a blue grey almost white hue.  My guess is in a week they will all be gone till next summer.

Orb last 2014

Can’t believe it is Friday again.

Caught this female Golden Orb in her web with the small male above her.  This is a first for me to catch them both in the same pic and thought it must be a share.

Orb female and male

Have a nice day and a super new week.
